Visiting loved ones in assisted living in Penticton is important anytime of the year, but especially during the holiday season. Many people want to bring a gift when they visit their loved one. If you plan to bring any gifts, make sure you take the time to consider what a useful gift for someone in assisted living will be. After a lifetime of gifts, and now living with limited space, some gifts could become a burden. Here are some gift suggestions for proper gifts this holiday season.

A Photo Album

One of the most welcome gifts by many seniors are updated photo albums with recent pictures of friends and family. Photo albums are a perfect present for seniors, as they not only provide comfort, but also allow some showing off and bragging to friends about it.

Games or Activities

Another great gift idea is to bring a game or activity that can be enjoyed by your loved one. This could include a new card or board game, a book of crosswords or puzzles, or even some new novels if your loved one is an avid reader. These types of gifts are also beneficial as they can keep seniors mentally active and engaged.

Time with You

For many seniors in assisted living, the desire and need  for more “stuff” is not there, and time spent with loved ones is actually the best gift. You may consider forgoing bringing a gift altogether, and instead offer a trip out somewhere together. This could be for a cup of coffee, to the library, a movie, or some other favorite place.

This holiday season, when you visit a loved one in assisted living, remember to be mindful of what you bring with you. Choose a gift that will be appreciated, and not become a burden.
