The pandemic has presented a number of reasons to be cautious. Many people have been wary of changing their life situations over the past year—and that’s understandable; uncertain times don’t exactly inspire risky behaviour. Pandemic or not though, there is one thing that is certain: it’s always a good time to move in to The Hamlets at Penticton. Even through lockdown, we accepted new residents into our safe, caring community. Our newest resident couple, Donald and Elaine Tasker, are just one example of a quarantine move-in success story.

The Taskers joined the Penticton community over Christmas. Prior to moving-in, Elaine was living at a family home while Donald was in the care of another facility, waiting to move to The Hamlets. After being separated, the chance to live together again was a Christmas present in and of itself. A 2-week isolation period is (currently) required for incoming residents, so Donald and Elaine had ample time to spend together. They enjoyed the time in their suite, and took the opportunity to relax, watch TV, and catch up on some sleep. Hamlets staff regularly visited to check-in and drop off meals, which Elaine was particularly happy with—now that she gets to skip the cooking.

Donald and Elaine kept in touch with family over facetime while in their suite. They had some friends in the Hamlets community prior to moving in, so after the 2-week period, they were happy to emerge and rendezvous. The rest of the Hamlets community looks forward to getting acquainted with the new residents as well, and on behalf of the whole community: welcome!

The Hamlets at Penticton is a supportive, long-term care and assisted-living community in the beautiful Okanagan area of BC. In a compassionate environment based on the tenets of Christianity, The Hamlets of Penticton offers security and independence for seniors in their retirement years.
